Calling all sci-fi fans: Prepare to experience Battlefield Earth15 Aug

We are loving every minute of this summer and you know what’s made it even better? The steady stream of sci-fi blockbusters that have hit the theatres: X-Men Apocalypse, Star Trek and Suicide Squad, just to name a few. When we’re not at the theatre, we’re continuing our sci-fi binge and fueling our Netflix addiction thanks to the return of X-Files and the new series, Stranger Things. Yes, the truth is clearer than Kanye’s call to Taylor – sci-fi is lighting it up on the big and small screens right now. The common element to each of these are aliens or some sort of otherworldly creature, and normally they are after one thing: humans!

Here at Booktrack, we’ve always been a fan of a good sci-fi, alien takeover story, so we’re pretty excited to be welcoming one of the biggest sci-fi bestselling titles of all time, Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000, by L. Ron Hubbard. If you aren’t familiar with this epic novel, let us acquaint you.

Battlefield Earth opens with a breathtaking scope on an Earth dominated for 1,000 years by an alien invader and man is an endangered species. From the handful of surviving humans a courageous leader emerges, Jonnie Goodboy Tyler, who challenges the invincible might of the alien Psychlo empire in a battle of epic scale, danger and intrigue with the fate of the Earth and of the universe in the tenuous balance.

Now we know one of the reasons you love sci-fi on screen is due to the sensory overload. The sounds of the creatures, the victims’ cries, the suspenseful noises that make you jump in your seat. With the Battlefield Earth booktrack, you get the same immersive experience with synchronized sounds that make you cringe, but with the enjoyment of reading the story on your tablet. Because really, do books ever actually compare to movies?
